The Casaday Costume Company is named for the late James Lewis Casaday, a legendary local theater teacher and director. His passion and genius for costuming launched a collection that now consists of more than 100,000 pieces and continues to be used by schools, theater groups, and individuals all over the region today.
In the late 1930's, Mr. Casaday began acquiring props and clothing he needed for his high school theater classes and productions at Central and Riley high schools in South Bend, Indiana. His first pieces were donated “old” garments and, as a result, the collection contains historic clothing dating as far back as the late 1800's. He created original pieces with the help of students and sewing parents. Over the decades he slowly built up an extensive and varied collection which was continued after his retirement.
The Casaday Collection continues to grow by building and buying new items and receiving donations. In addition to providing costumes for theatrical productions and educational uses we welcome the public to rent costumes, vintage fashion, and formal wear for themed parties, trivia nights, or other special events.
